THE BOOST TO BE YOUR BEST
Turbo lag....it's the bane of many a car and despite turbine technology improving the situation, it remains a fact of life. It is generally worse at Reef altitude, where the thinner air makes it more difficult to overcome the inertia in a turbocharged system and get everything moving quickly.
But we can improve the situation thanks to a recent addition to the Pedal Booster – an electronic device that improves the response of drive-by-wire throttles – is the current big thing in aftermarket tuning and while it doesn't increase power, it can dramatically enhance the driving experience. The result is a crisper, quicker response and drivers can expect better acceleration, especially with turbocharged cars as it reduces the time taken for the turbine to spool up.
We fitted one to our Toyota 86 Supercharged and it certainly speeded up the throttle response and it'll work even better on a turbocharged car. The good news is that it works equally well on turbodiesels – which can be very lethargic at altitude.
It also gives normally-aspirated cars a zestier feeling at low rpm, adding to the driving pleasure! Owners can set Pedal Booster from standard to mild or wild throttle response, and it can easily be changed from one setting to another.
Pedal Booster is very much of the plug-and-play variety and fits into the throttle system between the pedal position sensor and the standard wiring loom.
