With RGM's major success in supercharging recreational vehicles we recognized that the new Toyota Prado Dual VVTi was definitely a great candidate for the RGM supercharge conversion. Having completed a number of supercharge conversions on its predecessor the development team gathered around the table to plan a completely new development. Our in-house design division utilizing sophisticated CAD design programs came up with a design with emphasizes on durability, reliability and presentation allowing us to complete this aesthetically pleasing conversion in 3 months. The net result is a conversion that is not only exceptionally pleasing to the eye but also delivers in its expectations of increasing horsepower substantially.

The Vortech centrifugal supercharger unit we use is a V2 SC-Trim. This unit is renowned for it’s quiet working operation as well as its reliability. It is high pressure oil fed and runs a gravitational oil return to the sump. The charge cooler and piping is in a brushed aluminium finish. High pressure blue silicone has been employed for boost couplers. All piping is secured with the highest quality stainless steel clamps. As the supercharged unit is permanently engaged, the use of the RGM high flow Dump Valve (Recirculation Valve) has been employed to eliminate any surging under light throttle and coasting conditions.

We have, in this state of the art design used a Liquid charge cooler as opposed to an Air-to-Air intercooler. In extensive testing we have reduced boost air temperature by up to 60 degrees Celsius. RGM’s design utilizes the high quality Setrab cooler which mounts on the front of the car as does not impede on the normal air flow to the radiator. This cooler is also fitted with it’s own 8 inch electrical fan, adding unrestricted airflow to the radiator. This also assists in more effective charge cooling during low speed conditions. The total capacity of the 4.7 litres liquid cooled system is made up of 50% water and 50% Glycol (Anti-freeze).

We have utilized carbon fibre in areas where temperature reduces horsepower. The conical high flow serviceable air filter is housed in such a carbon fibre enclosure. This installation is totally bolt-on. The engine is not opened or tampered with in any way. No body panels are modified to suit the installation, making this conversion totally reversible.

Engine electronics (Ignition Timing and Fuel) is remapped to suit the additional air supply by means of a Unichip Q plus. The same Unichip is used to remove the road speed governor on request. In addition to the electronic changes, a RGM rising rate fuel pressure regulator is fitted to increase fuel line pressure as boost pressure increases. This supercharger unit develops a maximum of 0.5 bar boost (7 pounds).

Outstanding results are achieved with engine output topping 325kW giving you 191kW on the wheels, as opposed to the standard 118kW on the wheels and 202 kW on the engine. This is an 45% increase in engine output. Engine torque has reached an amazing figure. It has gone up from the standard 381Nm to 540Nm which equates to a 42% gain.

NB:This conversion is a bolt on conversion and retains the AIR CONDITIONING system
